New Single Origin Coffee Release: Peru Selva Central

Brought to Equator Coffee Roasters from the Selva Central region of Peru is our new single origin coffee: Peru Selva Central. It is available for purchase in-stores and online starting from today, December 5th, until January 2nd. This is the perfect single origin to end off one year and start the next!

Selva Central

Selva Central, aka Central Jungle, is a high jungle in Peru covered in cloud forest and is mainly situated within the tropical Chanchamayo Province, which is known for its coffee production. It is an area that is more popular with the Lima locals, or limeños, than any tourists, who typically tend to favor the lowland rainforest jungles around Puerto Maldonado and Iquitos. (1)

History Of The C.A.C. Pangoa

For those of you who keep up to date with our ever-changing monthly single origins, you might recognize this coffee has made a comeback from its earlier debut this year!

Tasting Notes And Flavors

The Peru Selva Central is a specialty-grade, organic-certified, 100% Arabica washed process coffee. This medium roast coffee (our roast level 4) was grown at an altitude of 1000 to 2050 m above sea level. With an excellent cupping score of 83.63, you’ll get a sensational cup full of nutty, dark chocolate, and plum tasting notes.

70% of this coffee consists of the Catimor varietal, which is a hybrid cross between Caturra and Timor (Catimor). Catimor coffee comes from high-yielding dwarf plants with bronze-colored leaf tips and more rounded beans. Unfortunately, they are highly resistant to diseases like coffee leaf rust.

For the best brew to maximize a Catimor coffee’s balanced flavors, try it as a homemade cappuccino. (3)
